Corbin is in grade 6 at Middling Academy. It's one of many schools he's attended, but this and many other challenges are part of Corbin's normal. Corbin's mom has an illness that means she has a string of lost jobs and evictions which mean Corbin is never in one place for long. When Corbin's classmate at Middling Academy needs to find a new home for her parakeet, Corbin accepts the talking bird and finds a comfort in this pet and the friendship that he develops with his classmate. Then things get really difficult for his mother and Corbin must make a difficult decision. Will his decision make things worse or will Corbin finally have the stability he desires in his life? This Red Maple 2022 nominee is an excellent read. Corbin's situation is both heartbreaking and inspiring. I highly recommend this book to fans of realistic fiction.
