Keena and her best friend Eric are set to begin grade 2.  Keena is excited because she and Eric are going to be in the same class.  They are even building a homework hut out of a big box so they can do their homework together. Unfortunately, just before school begins a letter arrives telling Keena that the school is creating a boys' and girls' class, so she and Eric will be separated.  When school starts, Keena is very happy with her wonderful new teacher.  This doesn't stop Keena from finding ways to get into mischief.  This is a fun read that children in grade 1 and 2 would especially enjoy.

The Geronimo Stilton series contains fun characters with unique personalities. The books contain colourful visuals and a variety of fonts. The use of language is perfect for a series featuring mice - mouseum, cheddar lollipop, etc. This is a popular series of books.

The Amazing World of Stuart By: Sara Pennypacker

Stuart is an imaginative boy who has just moved. He lost his collection of junk, so he creates a cape out of 100 ties. With his cape on, he has a number of interesting adventures. This book is a lot of fun. If you enjoy this one, look for Clementine, also written by Sara Pennypacker.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid By: Jeff Kinney

Age Recommendation: Grade 4+

This book is an interesting, easy to read book that makes you want to keep reading so you can find out what Greg will get up to next. Greg's diary entries and doodles allow us a window into what middle school is like for him and his classmates. Read the first book and find out why we can't keep the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books on the library shelves.

This is an entertaining collection of short stories involving Julian and his vivid imagination and antics. One of the stories, "Catalog Cats", finds Julian telling his younger brother, Huey, about cats that are purchased from a catalog and help people out in the garden. The sequel to this book is "More Stories Julian Tells". Lots of fun for read aloud.
