"Count Me In" is told from the perspectives of Karina and Chris. Karina and Chris are next door neighbours, but don't know much about each other until Karina's grandfather moves in with her family and becomes Chris' math tutor. One afternoon as the three are walking home from after school math tutoring, a stranger assaults them and badly injures Karina's Indian-American grandfather. Karina and Chris take a stand against the hate and a viral social media movement begins. This is an excellent book that provides a look at the discrimination many people face simply based on the colour of their skin. The story also shows the power of friendship and standing up to hate. I highly recommend this book.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
