Genre: Mystery
Age Recommendation: Grade 4+
The Mystery of Black Hollow Lane is the 2020 Silver Birch award winner and after reading this book, I am not surprised. Twelve year old Emmy lives in Connecticut with her mother who is a parenting expert. Emmy doesn't know much about her father because he disappeared on her 3rd birthday. Emmy has been to a lot of schools and doesn't make friends easily, but loves soccer. Shortly after the school year begins, Emmy's mother tells her that she is being sent to England to attend a boarding school. Emmy doesn't want to go, but her mother will be busy filming a parenting show so Emmy has no choice. Emmy soon adjusts to Wellsworth and makes two great friends, Jack and Lola. Along the way, Emmy learns that her father attended Wellsworth and she receives mysterious notes that lead her on a trail to discover more about her father and the school's secret society, The Order of Black Hollow Lane. I highly recommend this page turner. It is the first book in a series that is bound to be very popular.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
