Age Recommendation: Grade 6+
Genre: Historical Fiction
This book begins in the late 1800s when Noisy Horse, a young Lakota boy, finds an orphaned mustang foal and brings her back to his family's camp where he and his father raise the horse and name her Paint. As the story progresses, the United States Cavalry attacks the camp and Paint becomes the property of a buffalo hunting guide and then a homesteading family on the Canadian Prairies. This story provides good insight into this period in history through Paint's life journey. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend this and Red Wolf and Hawk, which are also Jennifer Dance books.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
