Age Recommendation: Grade 5-8
Mr. Baker is very excited about taking his grade eight class to the Carlsbad Caverns for their end of year field trip. The students are less thrilled about this field trip option, but once they are there, they do find the caves to be quite fascinating. As the trip is nearing its end, an earthquake strikes and the students find themselves in an underground lake. As they try to find their way back to the surface, they encounter some unexpected creatures and beings. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was a real page turner. The characters are easy to relate to and the story holds lots of excitement. This book has won the Silver Birch award and is nominated for the 2019 Red Maple Award.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
