Genre: Realistic Fiction
Age Recommendation: Grade 7/8
"Skating Over Thin Ice" is a 2019 Red Maple nominee. I truly enjoyed this book. Imogen is the main character and she is an incredibly talented pianist. She attends a private school where she has a few friends, but generally finds socializing a challenge. When Nathan McCormick, a talented hockey player, arrives at the school, the two develop an unlikely friendship. Imogen is in grade 12 and has a number of big life decisions to make, but doesn't always have the courage to speak up for herself. I found myself having a difficult time putting this book down. Imogen's character is so well developed. I really wanted to know what was going to happen with her. I highly recommend this book and, at the moment, it's got my Red Maple vote.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
