Genre: Historical Fiction
Age Recommendation: Grade 6+
Sookan and her family had a good life in Seoul, Korea until the bombing began. The Korean War forces Sookan and her family from their home and they become separated. Sookan, her mother and younger brother find themselves as refugees living on the side of a mountain in a rural community. This is difficult, but Sookan finds joy in her life and develops an unlikely friendship. This book gives an interesting glimpse of how the Korean War impacted families and how even in challenging situations, people can find ways to hope and stay positive. If you like historical fiction, you will find this quick read enjoyable.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
