A Good Kind of Trouble By: Lisa Moore Ramee

Genre: Realistic Fiction
Age Recommendation: Grade 7/8

Shayla is in the seventh grade and that means being in junior high.  Junior high is a lot different from elementary school, but with her friends Julia and Isabella by her side Shayla hopes things will be okay.  Shayla soon finds out that things change in junior high.  Her friendships are tested, she develops a crush on a boy and tries out for the track team.  Shayla finds it challenging to deal with all these changes.  Shayla tries to get some advice from her older sister, Hana, but Hana is very involved in the Black Lives Matter movement and has her own ideas of what her little sister should be doing.  As time goes on, Shayla begins to better understand the activism her sister is involved in and even begins to work on affecting change herself. This is a thought-provoking and enjoyable read.  This is a story for those who enjoy books about friendship, growing up, and world issues.  I highly recommend this book to those in grade 7 and 8.
