Firefly, previously known as Fifi, is 13 years old and has just come to live with her Aunt Gayle. Aunt Gayle owns a busy costume shop and tries her best to help Firefly feel comfortable in her new home. For Firefly, this scenario is a little too normal and takes some getting used to. This is because Firefly has been taking care of her mother who suffers from addiction from a very young age. With the support of Aunt Gayle, the costume shop staff, and a new friend, Firefly is able to adjust and grow into her new life. This is a wonderful story that had me from the first chapter. It is a heartbreaking, humorous and inspiring story. I recommend this Red Maple 2022 nominee to those who enjoy realistic fiction.
