This story is set in Newfoundland at the time of World War 1. Young Charlie Wilcox has a club foot and after it is operated on he really wants to go fishing, so he stows away on what he believes is a fishing vessel. Imagine Charlie's surprise when he finds out the ship he is on is actually taking soldiers to war in Europe. This book does get off to a slow start, but is well worth sticking with. The sequel to this book is "Charlie Wilcox's Great War".
