"Safe Harbour" is a 2021 Red Maple nominee. This is the story of fourteen year old Harbour who has been living on a sailboat with her dad for most of her life. This summer is different. Her dad sent her on a bus to Toronto and he is going to sail the boat to Toronto to meet her. Harbour and her dog, Tuff Stuff, are camping out in a Toronto park and things seem to be going okay until she stops receiving phone calls from her dad and her credit card is declined. As the colder weather begins to approach, Harbour must come to terms with the fact that she is now homeless. With the help of Lise, a homeless teen, Harbour learns how to survive on the streets. But when missing person posters of Harbour begin to appear around the city, what will Harbour do? This is an interesting read and kept me hooked. The story is well written and even though the story pieces fit together nicely, I did find it a little unbelievable at times. I recommend this book to those who enjoy realistic fiction and those who enjoy trying to fit the pieces of a story together.
