Genre: Realistic Fiction/Adventure
Age Recommendation: Grade 7/8
Sixteen-year-old Owen lives on a small island on the west coast of Canada where he and his parents operate a marina. Owen knows a lot about boats and dreams of joining the Coast Guard one day. It's pretty boring on the island and Owen dreams of adventure. When his parents leave him alone for the week, an opportunity for adventure arrives at the marina in the form of a yacht from South America. Owen decides to stowaway on the yacht, but what he finds is more than an innocent adventure, the yacht is smuggling school kids into Canada and Owen must find a way to escape from a serious situation. This book is quite fast-paced and is a 2020 Red Maple nominee. It should appeal to those who enjoy adventure stories based on reality.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
