Genre: Realistic Fiction
Age Recommendation: Grade 6+
Melody is in grade 5 and has a photographic memory. Melody is extremely smart, but few people know this because she is not able to speak. This story is told from Melody's point of view and the reader has an opportunity to experience Melody's home and school life through her eyes. Melody gets frustrated because she cannot communicate and her ideas are stuck in her head, but she does find a way to share her voice with the world. Even though Melody has a number of challenges, the reader does not feel sorry for her. She is strong and very admirable. This is an inspiring story and left me reflecting on how I see others.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
