Genre: Dystopian Fiction
Age Recommendation: Grades 7-8
One afternoon while Adam is at school the power goes out, but this is no ordinary power failure because all items containing computer devices also fail to work. This includes cell phones and most cars. Luckily for Adam he drives an old car and is able to get home. The power doesn't come back on and Adam and his neighbourhood must band together to survive. This book was a Red Maple nominee and has been popular with intermediate students. There are interesting ideas in the book particularly at the beginning and the end, but I found it to be unnecessarily long and repetitive. If you enjoy dystopian stories, you will likely enjoy this first book of a series.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
