Genre: Historical Fiction
Age Recommendation: Grade 5+
This book is based on the 1913 Canadian Arctic Expedition. The main character is 13 year old Helen, who isn't really looking forward to six months on a ship. Unfortunately, with the recent death of her father, Helen's mother must take a job as the ship's seamstress. Helen's younger brother, Michael, is looking forward to the adventure. When the Arctic Ocean begins to freeze over earlier than expected, Michael truly does get the adventure he was looking for. This is a very exciting story that will have readers hooked.
I am a book loving elementary school teacher librarian. This blog reflects my personal opinions about the books I have read and is intended to be used by students and teachers who are looking for a book recommendation.
