Mafatu is afraid of the sea and everyone teases him because of it. Living in Polynesia, he is surrounded by the sea. He and his dog, set out in his canoe to face his fear. Will he be able to conquer his fear and safely return to the island? The language in this book is rather dated and the use of Polynesian makes it somewhat challenging to understand at times, however, Mafatu's journey is an interesting one.
