Set in New France during the time of early settlement, this diary follows Helene's journey from France to Montreal. The reason for Helene's move? She is a "Filles du Roi" and her trip has been paid for by the king of France who is hoping to grow his nation by bringing young women to New France to marry the male settlers and create families. This story is an excellent connection to the grade 5 social studies curriculum and is an interesting window into a little known part of our history.
